Ulices Preciado Gomez

Licensed Clinical Social WorkeR

Life brings both pleasant and unpleasant surprises.  Coupled with life transitions, stressors, adjustments, and disappointments, these challenges can be overwhelming when dealing with all of them at once. Oftentimes, these life changes and surprises can harm our mental health, which can impact different life domains to a point where we start to question ourselves, develop negative thoughts, and, oftentimes, these can lead to isolation and feeling misunderstood. Then there are the elements of culture, core beliefs, environment, upbringing, self-identity, and our biology, which can also play a negative or positive role in dealing with life.

I can help. As an immigrant, LGBTQ+, Mexican American individual, I can relate to many of the challenges that immigrants and marginalized people face when they come into this country. Through my experiences, I've found that building a powerful sense of self, confidence, and resilience can be challenging, but it is certainly achievable with the right support. Twenty years ago, I chose to pursue a career as a therapist because I recognized my unique ability to support people who need help. I am very aware of the injustices, life struggles, and environmental obstacles that can lead to a mental health crisis, which can feel you are the only one in the world with a problem.

The therapeutic alliance develops when a client feels safe and is able to trust the therapist with very personal information. A strong therapeutic alliance between client and therapist is one of the best indicators of improvement in therapy, and I am committed to helping you with your mental health needs. As your therapist, I am also committed to a core principle of your capacity for self-determination, which means that my job is not to tell you what to do, but rather help you explore what you believe needs to change in your life, with your sole informed decisions made in therapy. As your therapist, I can help you identify and explore your strengths, your self-worth, and your value to facilitate a road to happiness, reach your full potential, and achieve your life goals.
