Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a type of treatment that is often used to treat issues such as depression, anxiety, addiction, relationship issues, and eating disorders. Many scientific studies have been done concluding that CBT can result in a notable increase in functioning. CBT focuses on current life issues rather than previous life difficulties and works to challenge our unhelpful thinking patterns in order to improve emotional regulation.

A TMH therapist will collaboratively work with you to create personalized strategies to solve your problems. The goal is that you leave therapy with the ability to apply the coping skills you have learned to real-life situations and be able to independently regulate your emotions.

CBT treatments include changing our way of thinking through:

  • Recognizing irrational thought patterns

  • Understanding the behavior of others

  • Developing skills to cope with difficulties

  • Growing trust in self

  • Learning to face fears

  • Role playing to develop coping skills

The core principles of CBT include the following:

  1. Thoughts affect how we feel and act

  2. Emotions affect how we think and act

  3. Behaviors affect how we think and feel
