Psychodynamic therapy is a form of in-depth talk therapy that focuses on psychoanalysis principles. This type of therapy is typically used to treat depression, anxiety, addiction, eating disorders, grief, loss, and many other issues. Psychodynamic Therapy can be useful for those who tend to bottle up emotions, find it hard to verbalize or name their feelings, have difficulty maintaining relationships or finding a purpose for life.

Psychodynamic therapy is designed to help patients explore the full range of their emotions, including feelings they may not be aware of. By making the unconscious elements of their life a part of their present experience, talk therapy helps people understand how their behavior and mood are affected by unresolved issues and unconscious feelings.

Psychodynamic therapy is a less intensive type of therapy and can sometimes be short-term, but is typically a longer treatment process.

At TMH, a therapist will encourage you to freely talk about what is on your mind so that you are able to become aware of how the unconscious mind and past experiences affect your life in the present. Having insight into the unconscious mind can lead to relief and coping strategies. Issues that affect your life but have been repressed can be confronted and dealt with to reduce its impact on your life. The goal of treatment is that you are able to recognize all of your emotions and leave with the ability to effectively deal with difficulties.
